AMOXYCILLIN 150

Suspension for injection

COMPOSITION

Amoxycillin trihydrate eq. 150 mg/mláamoxycillin

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Amoxycillin is a semi-synthetic broad-spectrum penicillin. It inhibits the peptidoglycan synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. Amoxycillin shows a bactericidal effect in a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, most Proteus types and penicillinase-forming Staphylococci are resistant. With E. coli there is also a high level of resistance. Resistance is primarily based on the destruction of the antibiotic by β-lactamase, which is primarily mediated by plasmids, but could also be chromosomal.

INDICATIONS

For the treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria susceptible to amoxycillin.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Do not use in animals with a history of hypersensitivity towards penicillins and cephalosporins. Do not use in small rodents (guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits) since amoxycillin may cause fatal colitis in these species.
