COMPOSITION

Prednisolone 1 mg – Neomycin sulfate 5,000 I.U. – Precipitated sulfur 5 mg – Zinc oxide 30 mg – Excipients up to 1 g

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Ancodermal is a combination of four drugs:

- Prednisolone which is especially indicated for its local anti-inflammatoryáand antipruritic properties.

- Neomycin, a broad spectrum antibiotic (aminoglycoside) against Gram- positive and Grem- negative organisms.

- Precipitated sulphur has an antiseptic, keratolytic and parasiticidal activity. Due to its higher state of resolution, the precipitated form has a better and quicker action than other sulphur compounds.

- Zinc oxide, incorporated beacuse of its astringent, protective and wound healing action, is very useful in all cases of eczema and excoriations of the skin.

INDICATIONS

Skin affections in dogs and cats (eg. dermatitis, pyodermitis, allergic skin affections, pruritis, parasitic infections), also those complicated with bacterial infections.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

Do not use in animals under 6 months of age.

Do not use in cases of neomycin resistance.

DOSAGE AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION

Shake before use.

After clearing and eventually shearing the lesions, a small amount of the emulsion is rubbed gently onto the affected areas, one to three times a day from 5 days to several weeks. In chronic cases the treatment may be continued for 3 weeks.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS

Prolonged treatment can induce atrophy of the skin. Hypersensitivity reactions seldom occur.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE AND WARNINGS

Shake the vial well before use.

The affected area of skin must be shaved and cleaned with liquid soap beforehand.

The underlying cause of the condition must be investigated and treated.

It is advised to test for neomycin sensitivity of the bacteria before use.

Do not use the product in cases of extensive wounds.
