Doxycycline (as doxycycline hyclate) 750 mg – Excipients up to 1 g

Doxycycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic that shows principally a bacteriostatic activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria of the following species: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Diplococcus, Listeria, Bacillus, Corynebacterium, Neisseria, Moraxella, Yersinia, Brucilla spp., Eyrsipelothrix, Vibrio, Haemophilus, Actinobacillus, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Pasturella, Fusobacterium, Actinomyces. Doxycycline is also active against spirochetes, micoplasmas, ureaplasmas, rickettsias, chlamydia, Erlichia and certain protozoa (eg. Anaplasma). In vitro activity of doxycycline against pathogenic bacteria in general is more expressed than that of other classical tetracycline antibiotics. Doxycycline is very well absorbed after its oral administration (bio-availability: 40-100%). It possesses distinct lipophilic properties and an excellent tissue distribution with concentrations in tissues and lungs that are clearly higher then in plasma.

For prevention and treatment of infections caused by doxycycline-susceptible microorganisms, such as:

Calves: infections of the respiratory, urinary and gastro-intestinal tract, septicaemia.

Pigs: Respiratory tract infections (enzootic pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis, pasteurellosis, pleuropneumonia).

Poultry: infections of the upper respiratory tract and of the air sac (coryza, CRD, Infectious sinusitis), salmonellosis, fowl cholera, blue-comb disease, E. coli-infections, psitacosis.

Do not use in animals with a previous history of hypersensitivity towards tetracyclines.

Do not use in ruminant calves.

ANCODOX 75 is administered orally with food or drinking water.

Calves: 14 mg of ANCODOX 75 per kg b.w. per day (10.5 mg doxycycline/ kg b.w./ day) given once daily or divided overá2 administrations with 12 hour intervals for 3 days.

Pigs: 10 to 14 mg of ANCODOX 75 per kg b.w. per day (7.5-10.5 mg doxycycline/ kg b.w./ day) during 5 days.

Poultry: 14 mg of ANCODOX 75 per kg b.w. per day (10.5 mg doxycycline/ kg b.w./ day) during 3 to 5 days.

In case of medication of the whole group with the drinking water:

Prevention Treatment
Poultry 100g in 1200 litres of drinking water for 3-5 days 100g in 800 litres of drinking water for 3-5 days
Pigs 100g in 1000 litres of drinking water for 5 days 100g in 750 litres of drinking water for 3-5 days
Calves - 1g per 70 kg b.w. once daily

Fresh solutions should be prepared daily.

Disturbances of the normal gut flora with diarrhoea may occur. In cases of severe disturbances, treatment should be stopped. Acute enterotoxaemia with blood circulatory disturbances seldom may occur in calves.

Tetracyclines primarily are bacteriostatic drugs. Simultaneous use with bactericidal antibiotics (penicillins, cephalosporins, trimethoprim) possibly may cause an antagonistic effects.

It is advised to control regularly the inávitro sensitivity of isolated pathogenic germs. Drinking water facilities (tank, pipe, nipples, etc.) should be cleaned thoroughly after cessation of medication.
