ANCOMOX 70
Water soluble powder
COMPOSITION
Amoxicillin trihydrate eq. 700 mg Amoxicillin – Excipients up to 1 g
PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES
Amoxicllin is a semi-synthetic, acid-stable broadspectrum penicillin. It inhibits peptidoglycan synthesis of the bacterial cell wall and has a fast bacteriocidal action. Amoxicllin is active against a number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Resistance against aminopenicillins most often is by plasmid-mediated production of penicillinase and occurs most frequently in enterobacteriaceae (E. coli, Salmonella spp.) and Staphylococci.
The absorption from the gastrointestinal tract is little influenced by the presence of food (bioavailability appr. 60% in chickens). Amoxicillin is about 30% bound to serum proteins. The concentrations in liver, bile, kidneys, urine, intestinal tissue and contents are clearly higher than in the blood. Here, therapeutic active concentrations can even be obtained against less susceptible germs (e.g. against enteropathogenic bacteria of the gastrointestinal tract). Although the concentrations in the respiratory tract are usually lower than in the blood, they usually exceed the MIC-values of most respiratory pathogens. Amoxicillin is partly metabolised and is mainly excreted with urine, to a lesser extent with the bile. The non-absorbed fraction is excreted with the faeces.
INDICATIONS
For the treatment of infections caused by amoxicillin sensitive germs in poultry, pigs and calves.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity towards penicillins and cephalosporins. Do not use in ruminating calves. Do certainly not use in rodents.

Pigs: 15-30 mg ANCOMOX 70 per kg b.w. per day during 4-5 days
Poultry: 20 mg ANCOMOX 70 per kg b.w. per day during 5 days
In calves the necessary amount can be mixed with the milk, milk replacer, water of electrolyte solution.
In case of administration in the drinking water:

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE AND WARNINGS
Periodic control of in vitro antibiotic sensitivity of field isolates is advisable.
Drinking water facilities (tanks, conduite pipes, nipples etc.) should be cleaned properly after cessation of medication.
Do not use in combination with fundamental bateriostatic antibiotics (eg. tetracyclines, macrolides) (possible antagonism).
Administration during pregnancy and lactation is contra-indicated.
Contact dermatitis can occur in persons who are often in contact with this antibiotic. Therefore direct contact with the powder should be avoided.
