Solution for injection

Oxytetracyline HCl 100 mg/ ml

Excipient and preservative ad 1ml

Oxytetracycline is a principally bacteriostatic acting broad spectrum antibiotic showing good activity against gram-positive bacteria (e.g. Streptococcus spp., Diplococcus, Staphylococcus spp.,Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Erysipelothrix spp., Mycobacterium spp., Corynebacterium spp.), gram-negative bacteria (e.g. Pasturella spp., Klebsiella spp., gram-negative anaerobes such as: Fusobacterium spp., Bacteroides spp.), against spirochaetes (eg. Vibrio spp, Leptospira spp.), rickketsia, chlamidia, mycoplasmas and some protozoa.

Oxytetracycline is not active against yeasts and fungi.

After intramuscular administration of recommended doses, therapeutically active concentrations against most pathogens in plasma and many tissues are maintained for at least 24 hours up to 48 hours. Oxytetracycline is excreted predominantly by the kidneys.

ANCOMYCIN 100 is indicated against infections caused by oxytetracycline sensitive germs, such as:

- Pigs: treatment and prophylaxis of respiratory tract infections (enzootic pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis, infections by Pasturella, Haemophilus spp.), and Mastitis- Metritis-Agalactia syndrome (MMA) in sows.

- Cattle: treatment and prevention of respiratory tract infections, foot-rot, otitis media.

- Sheep, goats: treatment of respiratory tract infections, foot-rot, navel ill.

Hypersensitivity to tetracyclines. Severe kidney and/ or liver insufficiencies.

By deep I.M. injection. Continue daily treatment until recovery.

In most cases 1 to 3 injections are sufficient.

- Calves: 20 mg oxytetracycline per kg b.w. or 1 ml ANCOMYCIN 100 per 5 kg b.w. everyááá 24- 48 hours.

- Adult cattle: 5 to 10 mg oxytetracycline per kg b.w. or 0.5 to 1 ml ANCOMYCIN 100 per 10 kg b.w. every 24 hours.

- Pigs, sheep, goats: 10 to 20 mg oxytetracycline per kg b.w. or 1 to 2 ml ANCOMYCIN 100 per 10 kg b.w. every 24 hours.

Where more than 20 ml is to be injected, it is recommended that two separate injection sites be used.

ANCOMYCIN 100 may also be given by SLOW intravenous injection, when high initial blood levels are desired.

Oxytetracycline therapy may rarely cause anaphylactic or other allergic reactions (treatment: antihistaminics and/ or corticosteroids). Use of the drug may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Irritation at the injection site only seldom occurs with this preparation. Too rapid intravenous injection may cause cardiovascular collapse.

General toxicity is low although collapse has been reported with tetracycline in weak and debilitated animals. Not recommended for cats, dogs or horses. The use of tetracycline during the period of tooth development, including late pregnancy, may lead to tooth discolouration. Not for use in ewes producing milk for human consumption. Do not dilute.
