COMPOSITION:

Nitroxynil 250 mg

Excipients up to 1 ml

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES:

Nitroxynil is an anthelmintic for parental and oral administration with good fasciolicide activity. It is also active against some nematodes. The fasciolicide activity of nitroxynil is caused by a disconnection of the oxidative phosphorylation, followed by ATP-exhaustion and finally death of the parasite through energy deficiency.

INDICATIONS:

Cattle: adult Fasciola hepatica (partially active against larval stages), adult Fasciola gigantica, gastro-intestinal nematodes: Haemonchus spp., Bunostomum spp., Oesophagostomum spp.

Sheep and goats: adult Fasciola hepatica (partially active against larval stages), adult Fasciola gigantica, gastro-intestinal nematodes: Haemonchus spp., ivermectin- and benzimidazol resistant Haemonchus contortus, larvae of the nasal bot fly (Oestrus).

Rabbits: Fasciola hepatica, Dicrocoelium dentriticum

Pheasants: Syngamus trachea

CONTRA-INDICATIONS:

Do not administer to laying hens when eggs are intended for human consumption.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

Fascioliasis: subcutaneous injection in cattle, sheep, goats and camels of 10 mg/kg or 1 ml per 25 kg b.w. In acute phase (larval stages): 13 mg/kg or 1.3 ml per 25 kg b.w.

Nematodes: subcutaneous injection in cattle, sheep and goats of 12.5 mg/kg b.w. or 1.25 ml per 25 kg b.w.

Oestrus ovis- Larvae: oral administration of 15-20 mg/kg b.w. or 1.5-2.0 ml per 25kg b.w.

In rabbits: SC injection of 10 mg/kg b.w. or 0.04 ml/kg b.w. (1 ml of the solution can be diluted with 9 ml of water for injection: then inject 0.4 ml/kg b.w.)

Pheasants: oral administration using 0.5 ml per litre drinking water.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS:

No side effects are to be expected when dose recommendations are followed.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE AND WARNINGS:

Nitroxynil stains wool or hair yellow. Care must be exercised to avoid spilling.
