COMPOSITION

Chlortetracycline hydrochloride 1 g

Excipients up to 1 bolus

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Chlortetracycline is a broad spectrum antibiotic belonging to the group of tetracyclines. It inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Chlortetracycline is o.a. active against the following micro-organisms that may be involved in uterine infections of ruminants: Arcanobacterium pyogenes,áFusobacterium necrophorum, Bacteroides spp., E. coli, Streptococcus spp., Chlamydia, Mycoplasma bovigenitalis and ureaplasmas.áFollowing intrauterine administration, very high chlortetracycline concentrations are reached within a few hours. Chlortetracycline and 4-epi-chlortetracycline can be found in the urine and milk, demonstrating a certain level of absorption from the uterus.

INDICATIONS

For the prevention of endometritis after parturition and for the treatment of uterine infections.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

None known for intrauterine administration.

DOSAGE AND MODE OF ADMINISTRATION

Oblet for intrauterine use.

Cows:

Treatment: 1-2 oblets

Prevention: 1 oblet

Sheep, goats:

Treatment: 0.5-1 oblet

Prevention: 0.5 oblet

If necessary, treatment may be repeated within 48 hours.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS

Allergic reactions may occur.
