ENROFLOXAN 100

COMPOSITION

Enrofloxan 100mg/ml.

PHARMACOLGICAL PROPERTIES

Enrofloxacin is a synthetic fluoroquinolone antibiotic with concentration-dependent bactericidal activity. It also possesses activity against bacteria in the stationary phase by an alteration of the permeability of the outer membrane phospholipid cell wall.

In vitro enrofloxacin exhibits good activity against áa large number of aerobe Gram-negative bacteria and mycoplasms and in a lesser extent against Gram-positive bacteria. Activity against anaerobes is weak.

Following a single oral dose (10 mg/kg body weight) in broilers and turkeys maximal serum concentration is reached after 1-2 hours. Following continuous administration in the drinking water at recommended dose, steady state serum levels reached are 0,52-0,66 μg/ml in chickens and 0,3-0,47 μg/ml in turkeys.

Following oral administration maximal tissue concentration is reached after 1 to 2 hours. Concentrations in organs are higher than in the serum, and are the highest in liver and kidneys.

TARGET SPECIES

Chicken and turkey.

INDICATIONS

Treatments of infections caused by enrofloxacin sensitive microorganisms.

Especially:

-ááááááááá Mycoplasmosis caused by enrofloxacin sensitive Mycoplasma spp.

-ááááááááá Colisepticemia and colibacillosis caused by enrofloxacin sensitive E. coli.

-ááááááááá Pasteurellosis (cholera) caused by enrofloxacin sensitive Pasteurella multocida.

-ááááááááá Pullorosis and other Salmonelloses caused by enrofloxacin sensitive Salmonella spp.

CONTRA-INDICATIONS

None known.

DOSAGE

10 mg enrofloxacin per kg body weight for 3 consecutive days.

This corresponds with 100 ml ENROFLOXAN 100 oral solution per 1000 kg poultry weight.

In case of salmonellosis and pasteurellosis treatment must be continued for 5 days. Consumption of drinking water may vary considerably with environmental temperature. In young chicks up to an age of 4 weeks a dose of 50 ppm is usually sufficient. Older animals consume less water with regards to their body weight, and therefore drinking water concentration needs to be adapted to their body weight and drinking water intake consumption level.

To reach a concentration of 50 ppm in the drinking water, 1 litre ENROFLOXAN 100 áoral solution is mixed with 2000 L of drinking water.

MODE AND ROUTE OF ADMINISTRATION

For oral administraton. To be mixed in the drinking water.

UNDESIRABLE EFFECTS

None known.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS FOR USE AND WARNINGS

Wherever possible, fluroquinolones should be used based on susceptibility testing.

PACK SIZE
