IVERMECTIN 80 DRENCH

Oral solution

COMPOSITION

Ivermectin 0.8 mg- Excipients up to 1 ml.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

Ivermectin is a semisynthetic derivative of avermectin and has a broad spectrum of activity against a wide variety of arthropods and nematodes of wild and domestic animals. Ivermectin paralyses nematodes and arthropods by stimulating GABA-mediated chloride ion conductivity. The effects of ivermectin are irreversible and prolonged. It is effective against nematodes of sheep eliminating immature and adult stages of all of the major nematode species from the gastro-intestinal tract including Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia circumcincta, Trichostrongylus axei, T. colubriformis, Cooperia curticei and Oesophagostomum columbianum. It also kills nasal bot (Oestrus ovis). Ivermectin is given to goats in the same formulations used in sheep and in the same dosage. It has similar spectrum of claims as in sheep.

When administered orally, ivermectin strongly associates with particulate digesta and therefore absorption is slow, resulting in a Cmax many times lower in ruminants compared to monogastrids. The elimination half-life in goats is shorter probably due to their high metabolic action.
