Tylosin tartrate eq. 750 000 I.U. (750 mg) Tylosin

Excipients up to 1 g

Tylosin is a macrolide antibiotic that is essentially active against Gram-positive bacteria and mycoplasma. It is also active against some Gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes, some rickettsia and chlamydia. At commonly recommended doses, Tylosin actes bacteriostatically. It inhibits protein synthesis of susceptible microorganisms by binding to subunits of the 50-S ribosome and inhibition of the translocation step. Tylosin shows very good in vitro activity against mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas isolated from pigs (M. hyopneumoniae, M. hyorhinis, M. hyosynoviae, Ureaplasma spp.). Most mycoplasma strains of poultry are highly susceptible to tylosin. Activity of tylosin against porcine Serpulina hyodysenteriae and Streptococcus suis is variable. Chromosomal mutation to resistance may developáquickly for tylosin, although such resistance is relatively unstable.

1) Poultry:

- Prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory disease (C.R.D.) caused by Mycoplasma gallisepticum in chickens and turkeys.

- As an aid in treatment of infectious sinusitis in turkeys.

2) Pigs:

- Prevention and treatment of swine dysentery, as an aid in treatment (maintenance of growth, improvement of feed efficiency) in case of chronic infections (enzootic pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis).

Administration to animals with a history of tylosin hypersensitivity is contra-indicated.

For oral administration with the drinking water.

Mix in the drinking water to obtain a final concentration ofá0.05% Tylosin= 100 g Tylosin 75 sol. powder per 150 litres of drinking water. Medicated water is provided as the only source of drinking water.

For prevention of CRD, Tylosin 75 is added to drinking water of 1-day old chicks for 3 successive days. Repeat treatment after about 4 weeks of age for 1-2 days. Medication may also be given in case of increased infection danger (e.g. stress at time of vaccination).

For treatment of CRD, Tylosin 75 is added to the drinking water for 2-5 days.

For supported therapy in case of infectious sinusitis ináturkeys, Tylosin 75 is added to the drinking water forá2 to 5 days.

Mix in the drinking waterá to obtain a final concentration of 0.025- 0.05% Tylosin= 100g to 200g Tylosin 75 sol. powder per 300 litres of drinking water. Medicated water is provided as the sole source of drinking water for 3 to max. 10 days.

Tylosin 75 can also be mixed with the feed at the rate of 1kg per 1000 kg of complete feed.

POULTRY 100g in 150L water for 3 days 100g in 150L water for 5 days
PIGS 100g in 300L water for 3-10 days 100g in 150L water for 3-10 days

For administration with the drinking water, first mix the total amount of Tylosin 75 sol. powder that is calculated in a small portion of drinking water until homogeneous. Then add the concentrated solution under continuous stirring to the drinking water until the desired final concentration is obtained. Fresh solutions should be prepared every 1-3 days.

Anal irritation, manifested as frequent episodes of rapid tail shaking, erythrema, oedema of rectal mucosa and rectal prolapse seldom may occur in pigs.

Tylosin may cause contact dermatitis in hypersensitized persons.
